Now THAT was a pleasant surprise. As much as I like the shooting in many of the Mexican cowboy movies, I usually don't find the actors sexy. So it was here in the beginning. Glad I didn't stop watching. Yeah, I know, for me the actors need to be young, skinny and good looking. OR, there needs to be some good closeup shots showing blood and bullet holes. Wow, so glad I kept watching. The bullet hole in the upper back at 3:57 was excellent. Yes indeed, that's the way a bullet hole should look. The one at 4:23 may not have been quite as perfect, but there we get to see the blood on the floor when the guy is rolled over. Nice work there by the director (?). He showed us what we wanted and would expect to see. None of that ..."no, don't bother, nobody will notice one way of the other" attitude. And then, maybe best of all, at 6:25 and 7:29 we see facial closeups of that young cutie. Loved seeing him get shot although I would have liked to have seen him take it in the gut and stagger around some rather than spin around and go down. That's partly because it looked like he was wearing a leather vest (?). Hey we usually can't have it all, can we? BUT, we do get to hear him plead for his life... "Please don't shoot me Silver," or word to that effect. Oh yeah, that adds SO much to the erotic aspect. A bonus point for the script writer. But the shooting was still excellent from start to finish. Just would have been nice to see the kid clawing at a bloody hole in the gut area of that black leather vest, hehe.
Those things alone made this one a real winner in my mind. Many of the other killing scenes (especially at the end where the guy is shot off his horse from a distance while trying to ride away) could have been much more exciting. Rather than have him crash into the post holding up the roof overhang, I would have loved seeing another closeup of a bloody bullet hole between his shoulder blades. But I assure you, I'm not complaining. LOVED the scenes I described above. Like so many films, foreign and domestic I got the impression that this one might be described by some as, "uneven."
Love it, Gary. Good shootings, with even bullet holes and some blood. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dino. Some fine killings in this one.
