Slow West [812]

  1. Gunshots don't appeal to me all that much, but I was pretty taken with the scenes in this film. There's something about the quality of the cinematography and the actors' skill that seems so real, raw, and brutal. I don't know the film, nor do I recognize the actor who plays the tall, lanky young lad. The scene where he gets plugged by the woman at point-blank range is very convincing - disturbing yet moving. The killing is so intimate and cruel. I don't think the scene is enhanced much by the salt-in-the-wound ending (not too subtle), but the poor guy's facial expression really makes his pain, suffering, surprise, and anguish real. Somewhat unrelated: I keep wondering how he recovered from the arrow shot through his hand.

    1. It's very rare to get modern westerns that are like this movie. Very special.

    2. I agree: The director's style puts a really distinctive imprint on this film and its influence on the viewer.
