A good one, Gary! I recognize a few of the actors in this one....Gordon Scott (Tarzan), Franco Nero, Joseph Cotton and James Mitchum (Robert's son). Loved the way Mitchum got his....two slugs in the belly. Whew! I do wish he had moaned and groaned, though. Thanks for this one. Hot!
Not bad, Gary, not bad at all. In fact there were several excellent scenes in this one. Thank you. At the very beginning where the guy gets hanged, the hanging itself wasn't all that exciting, but the great part was when the camera turned away from the victim and focused on the others standing there with only a brief glance back to show him swinging. And it wasn't the visual part but the sound. Pretty much dead sIlence except for the squeaking of the rope. EXCELLENT. I've probably heard that sound effect before in other westerns, but can't remember when or even for sure that I have. The squeaking added sooooo much. Okay, so that should be a new requirement for all hanging scenes. :) Then they might take another step and add spur jingling whenever a cowboy is wearing spurs. As he kicks and pumps air we'd hear the fucker's spurs jingling along with the occasional "clang" when his heels bang together. But what we heard here was pretty darn good.
Later, maybe around 3:49, the way the two wounded guys who were trying to crawl away were shot in the back was great. Blood, bullet holes and good jerking action when they took the lead. Excellent. Then even a little sadistic gunplay immediately after that when the killer approaches and pumps a couple more slugs into an already dead one, making 'em jerk. Ahhh, so fine. Guess that's another rule that should be added to all westerns... whenever possible, the killer should approach his kill and pump more lead into him. Hey, the killer should get his moneys worth shouldn't he? After gunning the fucker down he might as well have the pleasure of making his kill jerk a couple more times, he, he.
Loved the gut-shot through the leather jacket there near the end. After he's on the floor and trying to get up we even see a trace of blood on the leather. Very good since red blood on black leather doesn't show up that well.
Lots of other nice action and shooting in this one and especially liked the few scenes where we see the blood.
Thanks Phil. You are setting the standards for new ones very high :-) Completely my idea too to always put some extra bullets in guys already down on the ground. Even the slightets movement is a big plus. Love it when the wounded guy arches backwards when another bullet is received.
Gary, any chance of getting a couple of stills of Mitchum getting it in his leather jacketed belly and the earlier scene where he plugs his brother in the gut?
