Testa o croce [592]

  1. Titled Heads Or Tails in English. I have never seen the film, but I'm a big fan of John Erickson, so this one appeals to me. Love his death scene at the end. The guy with the open shirt in the saloon looks hot, too. Thanks, Gary.

  2. Yes, as with many westerns, I liked the action and the many scenes of cowboys getting shot. Thanks Gary. Must take lots of time and searching on your part to find many of these. Of course there is one thing that I find frustrating in some of these and that's the decision on someone's part not to show blood or bullet holes. After spending X amount of money for all of the other things needed to make a movie, is it that much harder and expensive to add the all-important ingredients of blood and bullet holes. Maybe their minds are not even thinking about that aspect? And maybe they see no erotic component there whatsoever. Obviously that's something you have no control over, so please keep 'em coming.

    1. Phil, I am in accord with your thoughts about bullet holes and blood effects. From what I've read, it had more to do with "not damaging or soiling the costumes", which were usually rented. That's why you may see blood effects on a head wound, but not on the shirts.....and they didn't dare put a hole in a shirt. The blood might have been fake in the films, but they could stain a costume, which might not come out easily. It's why many directors have the actors hold whatever part of the body is supposed to be shot in order to hide the fact that there is no blood or bullet hole on the costume.

    2. Thank you Phil and Dino for the comments and replies. Never thought they were renting customes. But it makes sense.

  3. Ah, that's interesting. Bet you're right, Dino. Of course for me, that's another perfect reason to have the cowboys wear smooth black leather :) Except for very closeup shots that last for more than a fraction of a second, a fake bullet hole would look perfectly real and can be temporarily stuck on with rubber cement. And the blood can wiped off with a damp cloth.

Gosh, it's so frustrating. Even if we didn't have all the skills needed to direct a film, it would be fun to have the big bucks needed to produce one and be able to tell the director exactly what we were looking for. I'm sure there must be good directors out there who are as sick as I am. No?

    1. Today's movies don't have the same issues as they did way back then, hence we get lots of bullet holes and blood effects. Some directors did go to extremes back then. In an episode of Laramie, a bad boy fights with John Smith (Slim Sherman) and the gun goes off between them. The director decided to use some fake blood, so he had the actor unbutton his shirt down the front and the "black blood" was put directly on the man's exposed belly, thereby avoiding the chance of soiling the shirt. Trouble is that before he was "shot", his shirt was buttoned up. ....and no, you are not sick (this from a guy who's suffering the same malady). Hahaha.
